A part of Chicago’s Gay and Lesbian Pride Week activities since 1982, Proud To Run (PTR) is an annual 10K run & 5K run/walk along the lakefront, focused on celebrating pride in a healthy way and raising funds to support the greater Chicago area LGBTQ community. The run draws more than 1,600 registrants with more than 2,200 people participating in last year’s event by running, walking, volunteering and sponsoring.

WCCC is once again volunteering to take over the Gear Check and be bike pacers for the racers to show the gay friendly and athletically minded what we are about! Part volunteer, part marketing, part social and come on, with 2200 people stripping down to run in the heat, part entertainment. Sign up to join us to volunteer at the Gear Check booth or be a Ride Pacer and kick of your Pride Week-end with us.

Gear Check Responsibilities – Keep runners’ items safe during the race!  Volunteers will collect and organize bags from participants (usually containing clothes) at the start of the race. You’ll secure the gear until runners return to pick up their bags. Standing, bending, and lifting minimal weight required. This job is fast-paced at peak drop-off and pick-up times before and after race.

Ride Pacer Responsibilities – Final review and ride-through of the course. Say ahead of each wave of runners to make sure the route is cleared by the time the first runners come through.
