About This Saturday Ride
THEPACE OF THIS RIDE IS VERY MODERATE AND RECREATIONAL - BEGINNERS AND EXPERIENCED WILL ENJOY!
FOR ATHLETIC TRAINING, SEE THE EARLIER RIDE SCHEDULED ON THIS DAY.

This is the ride that EVERYONE is welcome to join!
Member or not, check out the WCCC on this ride!

The Start of the Ride

WCCC members and their friends meet at the totem pole (Lake Shore Path and Addison St.) around 8:45am on Saturday morning and leavepromptly at 9:00amtoward the south side. At the totem pole, look for a group of cyclists, dressed casually (and stylishly). The Frontrunners meet at 9:00am, so we’ll have plenty of GLBT presence. If you’re coming in from the suburbs, there is free parking nearby.

Queen’s Landing

Around 9:40am, we arrive at Queen’s Landing downtown to pick up a few more riders, and then it’s off to Hyde Park. Queen’s Landing is on the lake shore path across from Buckingham Fountain.

Brunch in Hyde Park

Typically, we enjoy brunch at Medici’s on 57thStreet (1327 E 57th St, Phone: 773-667-7394).So if you want to join us at Medici’s we’ll arrive around 11:00am (give or take). All riders should bring money for brunch. Most entrées are under $10.

Back to the Totem Pole

After brunch we head back to the totem pole. Some people break off along the way depending on where they live, but if you ride from the Totem Pole and back you’ve traveled about 25 miles.

Bring a Friend

All WCCC members are welcome to bring their friends along. We all understand that it’s hard sometimes to come to a group alone, that’s why we encourage everyone to bring friends. Our recreational rides are meant to be social, so we strongly encourage everyone to come ready to meet someone. The more cyclists…the merrier!

What about the Weather?

This recreational ride is usually a fair-weather ride, though sometimes you’ll find that really brave cyclist willing to ride in the rain. Just don’t ride in thunderstorms! We’ll never cancel, but the numbers tend to drop off in bad weather.

What Do I Bring?

1) Your bike! Any bike will do, this ride is Easy to Moderate Pace (10-14mph). 2) All WCCC rides require a helmet. 3) Water bottle. 4) Bike lock. 5) It’s a good idea to bring materials to fix a flat. Usually there is a good-natured soul who will help you, but it’s good to be prepared. 6) Money for lunch or public transport. The path is fairly close to public transportation the entire route, so the CTA is always an option to get back if you’re too tired or your bike has malfunctioned. 7) A friend if you want, and 8) your desire to relax and have fun!
